A superhero or super hero is a fictional character who "has the extraordinary power to perform great actions in the public interest". Superheroes have power or power over usually humans, wear distinctive and striking clothes and distinctive names, and are portrayed as helpers for the weak in eradicating evil.

Other heroes who don't have superpowers can be called superheroes, and the term costumed exterminator is often used for superheroes that don't carry superpowers.

The first superhero was The Phantom created by Lee Falk, published in the daily strip on February 17, 1936, after which it was followed by the Sunday Strip on 28 May 1939, the second of which is still running.

Since Superman's appearance in the 1938 American comics, themed characters have appeared almost as well. Not only in America but including in countries affected by American pop culture over comic culture.
