The coronavirus has already affected thousands of people in various countries and claimed hundreds of lives. In order not to get infected with this infectious disease, there are several ways that can be implemented to avoid transmission of corona virus.

The cause of this outbreak is a new type of coronavirus called alongside the novel coronavirus 2019 (2019-nCoV). The disease belongs to a similar group of viruses with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle-East respiratory syndrome (MERS).

Coronavirus infection called COVID-19 first took place in wuhan city, China and is now found in various countries, including Indonesia.

Steps to Prevent Corona Virus Transmission

This virus is thought to come from animals, such as bats and camels, and is able to transmit from animal to human, and also from human to human. Interhuman transmission is most likely through a splash of phlegm when coughing or sneezing.

When infected with Coronavirus, a person will experience flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, and runny nose. However, a few days later, people who are attacked by coronavirus infection are able to experience shortness of breath due to infection of the lungs (pneumonia).

Until now, there is no cure that can cure Corona virus infection. Therefore, the World Health Organization (WHO) urges the public not to take this disease lightly and always take precautions. One of them is to jointly apply social distancing.

In addition, various researches and clinical trials of the COVID-19 vaccine are now underway. The vaccine is desirable to be able to add prevention against COVID-19 disease.

Some ways that can be implemented to avoid corona virus infection, including:

1. Wash your hands together properly

Washing your hands together properly is the simplest but effective way to avoid the spread of the virus 2019-nCoV. Wash your hands with running water and soap, at least 20 seconds long. Make sure all members of the hand are washed clean, including the back of the hand, wrist, between fingers, and nails. After that, dry your hands with a tissue, a clean towel, or a hand dryer.

If you are a commuter worker who is on public transport, it will be difficult to find water and soap. You can clean your hands with hand sanitizer. Use product hand sanitizer with alcohol content of at least 60% to more effectively eradicate germs.

Wash your hands regularly, especially before going and after meals, after using the toilet, after touching the animal, getting rid of garbage, and also after coughing or sneezing. Hand washing is important to be carried out before going to breastfeed a baby or milking.

2. Using a mask
Many people wear cloth masks to avoid Corona virus infection, even though the mask is not necessarily effective. In general, there are two types of masks that you can use to avoid transmission of Corona virus, namely surgical masks and N95 masks.

Surgical mask or surgical mask is a disposable mask that is commonly used. This mask is easy to find, affordable, and comfortable to wear, so that many people wear this mask during their daily activities.

The correct way to wear a surgical mask is that the colored side of the mask should be facing out, when the white inside facing the face and covering the chin, nose, and mouth. The white side is made of material that is able to absorb dirt and filter germs from the air.

Although not entirely effective in avoiding exposure to germs, but the use of this mask is always able to lower the risk of spreading infectious diseases, including Corona virus infection. The use of masks is more recommended for people who are sick to avoid the spread of viruses and germs, rather than against healthy people.

While the N95 mask is a type of mask that is used as one of the personal protective equipment or PPE for medical personnel who protect COVID-19 patients.

When removing the mask comes from the face, both surgical masks and N95 masks, avoid touching the front member of the mask, because the member is full of germs attached. After removing the mask, wash your hands with soap or hand sanitizer, so that clean hands come from germs attached.

3. Maintaining immune energy
Strong immune system is able to avoid the appearance of various diseases. To protect and increase immune energy, it is recommended that you consume healthy foods, such as vegetables and fruits, and protein foods, such as eggs, fish and lean meats.

If you're going with a home cooked meal, you can shop for ready meals or food at the restaurant through a delivery service, but make sure it's clean and healthy. When necessary, you include increasing the taking of supplements suitable for the direction of the doctor.

In addition, regular exercise, adequate sleep, not smoking, and not consuming alcoholic beverages including being able to increase immune energy to avoid transmission of corona virus.

Some info explained that basking in the sun includes being able to avoid corona virus infection. Unfortunately this remains to be researched further.

4. Apply physical distancing and self-isolation
Physical distancing is one of the important ways to break the link of corona virus spread. This can be done together with the way not to travel outside the house, if for urgent or emergency purposes, such as shopping for groceries or medical treatment when sick.

Physical restrictions include implementing together how to protect a distance of at least 1 meter with others and always wear a mask, especially when doing activities in public areas or crowds.

During physical distancing, you should avoid contact with people who are sick, considered infected with Coronavirus, or have been declared positive for COVID-19.

If you have any of the mild symptoms of COVID-19, have a history of travel or have lived in an area affected by coronavirus within the last 14 days, or have been in contact with a person who has been declared positive for COVID-19, you are encouraged to self-isolate.

In addition, independent isolation is recommended to be carried out by people who are at high risk of being infected with the Corona virus, such as the elderly or people who have accompanying diseases, if hypertension, diabetes, or weak immune energy.

5. Cleaning the dwelling and disinfecting it regularly
In addition to personal hygiene, protecting the cleanliness of residences is very important throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This is because the Corona virus is proven to be able to survive for hours and even days on the surface of an object.

Therefore, the residence must be routinely cleaned and thoroughly disinfected, including furniture and living equipment that is often touched, such as door handles, television remotes, water faucets, and table surfaces.

When cleaning or disinfecting, you should wear gloves and a mask, and also wash your hands with clean water and soap after cleaning the house. This is carried out to avoid transmission of corona virus that is likely to occur.
